Residential and Commercial SUNSPACES
magazine
- 1991 Buyer's Guide -
Based on a March, 1990 survey by The National Association of Home Builders, we estimate that over 300,000 sunspaces ( including solariums, greenhouses, patio rooms, skylights and bump-out windows ) were added to single family homes in 1990 and 540,000 are planned for 1991. Families plan to spend an average of $13,642 for sunspaces in 1991, representing $7.4 billion in consumer spending.
The market for residential and commercial sunspaces is forecast to grow 80% from 1990 to 1991, making it the fastest growth segment of the remodeling market. As the cost of new homes skyrockets, home owners are looking to increase the value and beauty of their existing homes. Commercial builders are looking to sunspaces as a way to offer business an attractive and energy efficient workplace.
In addition, the trend in new home developments and commercial structures is to routinely include sunspaces as standard features.
Shelter publication writers
and editors have recognized this trend and are enthusiastically devoting
more editorial space to sunspaces as design features and living environments.
However,
SunSpaces in the only publication exclusively serving this growth market.
In March, 1990, the National Association of Home Builders released their sample survey of America's 60 million single family homes. Based on the response of 2,000 individuals, here are the figures for 1990 and projections for 1991:

The table and editorial comment
speak for themselves. We have experienced that the
market does and will fluctuate depending on the state of the economy.
However, this market
is still very strong and increasing. People will always want to improve
their homes. They want
something that will provide a comfortable addition worth their expenditure.
Bottom line here is,
an investment that will be realized upon sale of the home. Real
estate agents tell us all the time,
"If 2 similar homes are on the market - the
one that has a well built solarium, they will
end up signing the deal in the SOLARIUM."
